Fees & Financial Info

Canada's National Ballet School is a publicly-subsidized professional training institution. For most programs, the School charges tuition fees which cover only a portion of the real costs.

Full-time Fees

Full-time fees for both tuition and residence are based on the academic school year (September to June). Tuition and residence fees for the July Summer School are charged separately. Various options are available for the payment of fees. Where payment has been approved in installments, post-dated cheques must be provided to the School according to the payment deadline.

Fees for Visa Students

Consistent with the practice of other publicly-subsidized schools, visa students are charged fees that cover a higher percentage of costs than Canadian students. "Canadians" are defined as: citizens within the meaning of the Citizenship Act who are ordinarily resident in Canada, and permanent residents within the meaning of the Immigration Act, as long as they demonstrate the intention to become Canadian citizens by applying for citizenship as soon as legally eligible.

Financial Assistance

Assistance is available to students in the full-time Professional Ballet Program based on financial need. Families wishing such assistance must complete a detailed bursary application form, and all such requests are evaluated on the basis of family means. In keeping with the School's status as a national training institution, every effort is made to ensure no Canadian student is deprived access because of financial circumstances.

Limited assistance may also be extended to non-Canadian students based on financial need and bursary funds available. Other forms of assistance may also be available to students from their home provinces, community foundations, local school boards, service clubs and other sources.

Artistic Achievement Awards

A limited number of artistic achievement awards are available each year to students in the full-time Ballet Academic Program at the discretion of the Artistic Director. The largest of these is the Christopher Ondaatje Ballet Prize for an outstanding graduating student.
