A Ballet Festival Uniting the World
April 28 – May 4, 2013
In November 2009 as part of NBS' 50th anniversary celebrations, the School brought together thirteen of its partner schools to participate in the first Assemblée Internationale 2009.
This student choreographic festival was an enormous success, bringing professional ballet students from around the world, along with their Artistic Directors and staff to engage, collaborate and celebrate dance. Hosted entirely by NBS with support from Aeroplan, the School was animated with blended ballet classes, rehearsals, new choreography created by students and performances in the Betty Oliphant Theatre.
Deemed a resounding success by all participants, Mavis Staines, NBS' Artistic Director and Co-CEO announced a second AI will happen in 2013, running from April 29 – May 5. Including both streams from the first AI (performances based on the participating schools' existing repertoire and a student-created choreographic workshop) as well as introducing a live-streaming performance, the next AI will also see an additional number of schools participating.
